Hope everyone had a great Mother's Day.   Finished my son-in-laws 1st Father's Day Quilt.  Also completed this crochet quilt done for my future daughter-in-law. My hubby made me a quilt ladder out of an old futon frame.  Have one more quilt to complete then they will be shipped to their new owners. Well that's a lie I have about 6 quilt kits to keep me occupied for a while.

Tip #1
I don't know about you but once I have finished with all my blocks and have them in the order I want them in on my quilt wall, I have a heck of a time keeping them in that order when I need to sew.  So instead of the little round labels or post-its that everyone else likes to use I use the photo/scrapbook corner labels.  This way I can put them in the corners of the blocks and number them.  Yes they are more expensive than most labels but they don't leave glue on your fabric like the other labels do sometimes.  This helps me hope it helps you.



Tip #2
When trying to design your next quilt and you need an easy way to find the color coordinating fabrics you want to use just go to the paint department and grab some color samples their free.  That's what I do. Maybe it will help you too.

Tutorial - Hexagon out of a circle for quilting

Step 1:
Use canning lid (the hexagon size will be approximately half the size of the circle)

 

 

Step 2:

Cut out circle and finger press in half

 

Step 3:



Finger press in half again



 

Step 4:

Use same color thread (I didn't so its visible) and hand sew a tiny stich

 

Step 5:

Open back up and sew each half circle into middle

 

Step 6:

If right handed work clockwise, left handed counter clockwise and sew each corner into middle

That's all there is to it.  This will work for any size circle.
